The collaboration between the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Mauritius and the association Young Queer Alliance started in 2015. The Delegation has supported the national campaign launched by Young Queer Alliance in April 2015 on the theme “Equality for All”. The EU awarded the first prize during a ceremony held on 16 May 2015 to mark the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia. The Delegation has also provided its contribution for the organisation of the second Youth Leadership and Human Rights residential conference “Know your rights” in February 2016.

Article 10 Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union foresees that the European Commission shall aim to combat discrimination when defining and implementing all its policies and activities. The European Commission has defined a List of Actions to advance LGBTI Equality to be implemented during the period 2016-2019.”
