Interview: Dr. Tifana Marie AngeFTweet
Dr. Tifana Marie Ange is a facilitator at the National Youth Institution and in charge of Youth Sexual Health and Psychology at the National Academic of Sports in Madagascar. Invited by the Ministry of Sports and the Youth Commission of the Indian Ocean to deliver a training on Sexuality and Youth Health in Mauritius, Dr Tifana worked with participants from Mauritius, Madagascar, Rodrigues, Mayotte, Agalega and Seychelles.
She believes that working with the LGBTQQIA community is itself not an easy task because of the mindset of people. Its takes even more training and empowerment for someone to work with LGBTQQIA youth community since they are confused, need support and confidence.

Often these kids, have been bullied and ill-treated by family members. They need “special attention and care” she says. She believes that the Malagasy population still have stigmatization and discrimination behaviors toward the LGBTQQIA community inspite of having a legally recognized NGO working for the recognition of LGBT issues.
Dr Tifana hopes that with educations of parents, social support and advocacy, the LGBT youth will not stay in the closet. We should be able respect and love each and every one as they are.
